Main Attractions

"Union" hand pumper

1850 Downs & Company 80GPM Hand Pumper

the borough’s first front-line apparatus were 8 man human powered wooden hand pumpers named the “Union” and the “Jersey Blue.”

1873 Steam Powered Amoskeag 500 GPM Pumper

Delivered in the fall of 1873 from Manchester, NH via railroad and served the department as Engine Company. No. 1 through the early 20th Century.

Engine 5

1942 Mack L95S

Currently Engine 5 serves as a ceremonial antique. The apparatus has a 1,000-gallon-per-minute pump, a 300-gallon tank, and a hose bed retrofitted as a casket for firefighter funerals.

Tours start here and are guided by Somerville volunteer firefighters and follow a well-marked path through the building. Exhibits and artifacts include a pre-Civil War hand pumper and a horse pulled steam engine as well as equipment, hoses, ladders, Chemical extinguishers and more...

2nd Floor

Continuing upstairs visitors will find helmets, uniforms, photos and other related fire service memorabilia.
